Invisalign® in Cambridge
Almost Invisible Teeth Straightening

Invisalign® aligner system straightens the teeth using a series of clear, nearly invisible and conveniently – removable aligners.

Aligners are custom-made specifically for individual patients’ teeth. You will be given aligners and asked to wear aligners ~22+ hours a day in order to achieve the desirable result. Each aligner will need to be worn 4-14 days (depending on your treatment plan), before you are asked to submit a scan of your teeth using Dental Monitoring App. The scan will be checked by AI and Dr Francis Scriven, and if everything is good (teeth moved as planned with this aligner), you will be advised to move on to the next set of aligners (working your way through those aligners).

Invisalign® is a great tool and especially if used by a specialist orthodontist, who is experienced in using this system. It can be used to treat difficult clinical cases, including: Open bite, Overbite, Crowding, Underbite, Crossbite.

Invisalign® aligner system can be used not only for adult cases, but children and teen cases too. Invisalign® First (for children with deciduous teeth) is often used to correct the alignment to allow adult teeth to come through in the right position.

About The Invisalign® Aligner System

By using Invisalign® clear aligners, achieving the smile you always dreamed of doesn’t have to be a big deal. The traditional route to correcting issues such as crooked teeth, gaps and crowded mouths has long been visible braces. However, the Invisalign® system uses no brackets or wires – is it clear, removable and comfortable, so it won’t interfere with your appearance or your life.

We know that a straight smile often means a healthy smile. Not only will Invisalign® clear dental aligners for adults straighten your teeth, they will also improve your overall dental health at the same time!

About Invisalign® Teen

Unlike traditional orthodontics, there are no wires or brackets involved with Invisalign® teen. Simply slip the aligners onto the teeth and take them out to eat, drink and brush your teeth.

You will need to replace your new set of aligners every 4 -14 days. The aligners will gradually move your teeth into their final prescribed position.

What can Invisalign® fix?

Crowded Teeth Pre Invisalign

Crowded teeth

Crowded teeth is a condition where you do not have enough room for your teeth to fit normally. This can cause plaque or tartar and other harmful bacteria to build up as it is harder for you to brush and floss well.

Gaps Between Teeth

Gaps between teeth

Gaps between teeth is when there is extra space between two or more of your teeth. This can cause pockets between your teeth and gums and can cause food to get stuck making them tender and sore. This might also lead to gum disease.

Open Bite

Open bite

An Open bite is when your upper and lower teeth don't touch when you close your mouth. An open bite can make it hard for you to chew or difficult to bite even the most common of food like apples.

Underbite

Underbite

An underbite is when you close your mouth and your lower front teeth are in front of your upper teeth. In many cases, this is actually a problem with your lower jaw being too far forward. An underbite can make it hard to chew properly and speak clearly, and it might cause your teeth to wear down more quickly.

Overbite

Overbite

An overbite is when your upper front teeth overlap with your lower front teeth. Most people have at least a little overbite. When your overbite is too large, your doctor might tell you you have a deep bite. This can cause problems, from your teeth wearing down to pain in your jaw.

Crossbite

Crossbite

A crossbite is when you close your mouth and yet some of your upper teeth are sitting inside your lower teeth rather than on the outside. A crossbite can make your teeth wear down or chip. It can also make your gums start to recede or make little notches above your gum line. This kind of damage can lead to painful gum problems or even bone loss.

FAQs

1. What is the Invisalign system?

Invisalign clear aligners are a virtually invisible way to straighten your teeth and achieve the smile you’ve always dreamed of. Using advanced 3D computer-imaging technology, we can plan your complete Invisalign treatment based on your Specialist Orthodontist’s prescription, from the initial position of your teeth to the final desired position.

Then a series of Invisalign clear aligners are custom made for your teeth and your teeth only to move them little by little. Each aligner is worn for 4 -14 days before being replaced by the next in the series, gradually moving towards the projected final position. Your Invisalign treatment time will be determined by your Specialist Orthodontist, based on your specific needs.

2. What are the benefits of the Invisalign system?

Invisalign clear aligners are nearly invisible. No one may even notice that you’re wearing these virtually invisible aligners, making Invisalign treatment a seamless fit with your lifestyle and day-to-day interactions with others.

Invisalign clear aligners are removable, giving you the flexibility to eat and drink what you want during treatment. You can also remove the aligners to brush and floss as you normally would for fresh breath and to maintain good oral hygiene.

Unlike traditional fixed dental braces, there are no metal brackets or wires. This means that in most cases, minimal time is spent at the practice for adjustments.

Advanced 3D computer-imaging technology allows you to view your virtual results (ask about our FREE Smile Visualisation) and receive a detailed treatment plan so you can see how your teeth are expected to look when your treatment is complete.

3. Is this a new way to straighten teeth?

Specialist Orthodontists have successfully used removable appliances for years. However, with the application of Align Technology’s 3D computer technology and aligner customisation, Invisalign clear aligners can be used to treat a wide range of patients who want straighter teeth. The unique ClinCheck® software allows patients to see their treatment plan from beginning to end even before the start of treatment.

4. How much does Invisalign treatment cost?

As with other types of orthodontic treatment, the cost of Invisalign clear aligners is dependent upon the complexity of your teeth straightening and your course of treatment. As a general rule, the cost is comparable to traditional fixed braces.

In simple terms, the more complex your teeth straightening, the more Invisalign aligners are needed to achieve your best smile. Conversely, the less complex the straightening, the less Invisalign aligners are needed. Consequently, based on the number of Invisalign aligners your Specialist Orthodontist prescribes as needed, the price goes up or down accordingly.

On this basis, only an accredited Invisalign Orthodontist Provider is able to determine your cost.

5. How does the Invisalign clear aligner system work?

Invisalign clear aligners move teeth with an appropriate placement of controlled movement on the teeth. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign treatment not only controls the amount of movement per aligner, but also the timing of the movement. So at each stage, only certain teeth are allowed to move, as per the treatment plan for that particular stage. This results in an efficient force delivery system that moves teeth into the desired prescribed position.

6. What is the minimum age of a patient that can be treated with Invisalign aligners?

With experience, an Invisalign Orthodontist can use Invisalign clear aligners to treat malocclusion for a majority of adults and adolescents who want a better smile. For teenagers, talk to your Invisalign Provider to see if Invisalign Teen may be the right treatment option for your child.

7. How often must I see my specialist orthodontist once I have started Invisalign treatment?

With the power of the DentalMonitoring app and ScanBox pro, we will be able to monitor your Invisalign progress remotely, which would minimise your attendance at the practice. The DentalMonitoring app is so sophisticated that it can notice your aligner not tracking, or a missing attachment etc. Therefore, we will endeavour to minimise your appointments at the practice as we realise your time is always very valuable.

8. How long does Invisalign treatment take?

The total duration of treatment depends on the complexity of the treatment and is generally comparable to that of traditional braces. Typically treatment can last between 3 and 18 months. During your consultation, your Invisalign Orthodontist can provide you with more detailed information.

9. Can my child/teenager have Invisalign?

Your qualified specialist orthodontist should be able to answer this questions following your consultation. A qualified orthodontist trained in fixed braces and use of aligner technology should be able to offer you several options. However some orthodontic problems are treated more quickly or efficiently with a particular type of appliance. Your orthodontist will be able to provide you with this information.

10. Is the Invisalign treatment painful?

Some people may experience temporary, minor discomfort for a few days, at the beginning of each new stage of treatment when they insert a new Invisalign aligner. This is normal and is typically described as a feeling of pressure. It is a sign that the aligners are working – moving your teeth gradually, helping you to achieve the final results. This discomfort typically goes away in a couple of days.

11. Will TMJ affect Invisalign treatment?

TMJ refers to the temporomandibular (jaw) joint. People with a TMJ condition can have a number of problems with the jaw joint, some of which can be aggravated by appliances and treatments like Invisalign clear aligners, and some which can improve, remain the same or even cause the condition to deteriorate. To find out if your TMJ problem will adversely impact treatment, please book an appointment to consult your Invisalign Specialist Orthodontist.
